Freiburg, Germany – October 10, 2006 – HUETTINGER Elektronik GmbH + Co. KG today celebrated its new building with a dedication ceremony at Haid Industry Park. The company,
a subsidiary of the TRUMPF Group, a German-based machine tool builder and laser specialist, thus completed the building phase of its new company headquarters. Speakers at the dedication ceremony included, among others: Günther H. Oettinger, Minister President of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg, Dr. Dieter Salomon, Lord Mayor of the city of Freiburg, and Professor Berthold Leibinger, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the TRUMPF Group.
The 34,000 square-meter, two-story production and office building was completed over the past 17 months. The new building has 15,000 square meters of floor space. The company moved into the building in mid-July 2006, entailing a total relocation from the previous building five kilometers away.. "The new building will allow us to improve our business processes and better use available space. Further growth is now also possible in terms of space. This was no longer feasible in the mature and, in part, very old building at the previous location", explains HUETTINGER Managing Director Dr. Dieter Pauschinger. The company’s 27 million Euros investment in the new location represents a clear commitment to Freiburg as a business location. "In the past two years, HUETTINGER was the strongest growing subsidiary of the entire TRUMPF Group. This underlines the need for the new building and has set the course for further growth," reports Professor Leibinger, of the TRUMPF Group. The Barkow Leibinger architecture firm, based in Berlin, designed the new building. The Freiburg-based company Barton Architekten was the general contractor.
Transparency as central theme:
The 100-meter long, 72-meter wide building provides space for 450 workstations. Visitors, who enter the building for the first time, immediately feel openness and transparency. Glass is the main building material, which gives the offices and production spaces a bright and expanded atmosphere. Large open offices facilitate the flow of information and the exchange of ideas. The building’s facade consists of front-hanging prefabricated concrete slabs. On the ground floor, these slabs have a raised surface structure, in which diamond-shaped rises were created in the concrete slabs during production by molding an embossed sheet. The facade of the production hall, the punch windows on the ground floor and the band of windows that encircles the top floor have a colored reflective coating to protect against the sun. Black steel frames accentuate the openings and allow them to clearly and visibly protrude from the facade level. Two roof gardens will divide the top floor into three long office modules. "Chimneys of light" to guide natural daylight into the production hall and divide the modules into ten-meter wide units.
Energy efficiency defines the air-conditioning concept. A solar collection system on the roof is one source of power. The building is kept cool using a heat exchanger, which will make use of a fountain to tap into groundwater. After circulating once through the cooling loop, the water will trickle away.
Sales and staff: A tradition of growth
In 1922 Fritz Huettinger founded the company to manufacture electrical appliances. Since 1990 HUETTINGER Electronic has been a subsidiary of the TRUMPF Group, producing generators for induction heating, for plasma and CO2 laser excitation. HUETTINGER generators are used to produce high-tech products such as semiconductors, flat-screen monitors and LEDs, and the coating on architectural glass. These generators provide energy required for processes such as the supply, removal and heating of materials. HUETTINGER produces high frequency generators (HF generators) exclusively for TRUMPF Laser- und Systemtechnik GmbH in Ditzingen. These generators are used for CO2 laser excitation. When it comes to lasers for material processing, the TRUMPF Group is the global market leader. In April 2006, shortly after the company’s market launch of generators for flat-screen monitor production, HUETTINGER received an order in the amount of 27 million Euros from a leading Japanese plant builder for flat-screen monitor production. HUETTINGER currently employs 400 and is training 29 apprentices in the technical and commercial fields. For the 2005/06 financial year, sales rose by 37 percent to 97 million Euros.
