Joining the “Semicon Europa 2007 Photovoltaic Tour” Stanley T. Myers, CEO and President of SEMI, visited HÜTTINGER Electronic today. Mr. Myers and members of the industry organization took the opportunity to get first hand information about DC, MF and RF generators for solar cell manufacturing. During a company tour, the group learned how critical power supplies are to the manufacturing of solar cells of all types and, in particular, how they influence the film quality. Summarizing the visit Myers stated: “It’s impressive what HÜTTINGER can offer”.
Michael Ehinger, HÜTTINGER Vice President of Sales, Service & Marketing, outlined trends in solar cell coating. Driven by a need for improved productivity and lower costs, the substrates used for solar cells are becoming larger and larger. This applies especially to thin film solar cells. Here, plant builders are approaching the sizes typical of large area coating for flat panels and architectural glass. “Consequently, requirements on generator quality and reliability are increasing too.” Michael Ehinger explained.Accordingly, a rising number of system manufacturers are choosing HÜTTINGER products as their power source, trusting the expertise of the world’s leading supplier of DC, MF and RF generators for large area coating. In this fast growing photovoltaic market, they leverage the cutting-edge technology that has been performing reliably for decades.
HÜTTINGER generators produce the required power to create plasmas. In a reactor chamber this electrically conductive gas atomizes coating material which then deposits as ultra-thin films upon the substrate. In a solar cell, these films transform sunlight into electrical energy.
